The focus of beginner classes is standing and other foundational poses. Beginner classes are a great time to learn modifications that will allow those with injuries and other special considerations to adapt the classical poses.

These classes are open to everyone

Chair Yoga

These classes began with seniors in mind but are open to all - especially those who have difficulty putting weight on their hands/knees and who prefer a more gentle approach. In this class we do get off the chair for some standing poses but our feet are the only body part to ever contact the floor.

During a restorative yoga session we bring our bodies into familiar poses with the help of yoga props including blocks, bolsters, belts and the wall.

The props support us in these positions so that our focus can be on allowing the body and mind to stay in the position for an extended period. This allows the body/mind to fully experience and integrate its "new" position.

The result is a deeply nourishing, satisfying yoga session.

Join Tamara for Meditation Monday.  This is not a class but an opportunity to practice in a dedicated space where there are no distractions.  Whether you have a formal practice or just want to see what it feels like to carve out some downtime for yourself, come join Tamara.

The evening will start with a guided meditation and end with a silent one.  Donations are graciously accepted.

Vinyasa/Active Flow

The emphasis of vinyasa classes is on moving from pose to pose in sync with the breath. These classes will be modeled after the Ashtanga yoga flow which begins with sun salutations and works through a specific order of poses toning and stretching the whole body.

This class is open to those who have yoga experience or are currently physically active, and/or don't mind a challenge. If you would like to enroll in this class but are unsure please feel free to contact me as modifications will still be offered.

Denise Loewen

Years before she actually found them, Denise had a desire to study meditation and the healing arts. When she finally heard of yoga, the spiritual element coupled with its physical discipline & attention to detail seemed like the perfect addition to an already established fitness/stretching habit.

Denise began her yoga practice in 2001 at the Yoga Center Winnipeg where she received her teacher training and continues to study. Along the way, Denise completed the 3.5 month Spiritual Lifestyle Program at Kripalu Center for Health & Wellness and has taken classes and workshops from many awesome instructors, including Laurie Joe Lindroos, Father Joe Pereira and of course, the long time crew at YCW.

Styles studied include Iyengar, Ashtanga, Kripalu & Kundalini.

Denise added instructing Yoga to her practice with hopes of honoring those who shared with her by inspiring others to explore this beautiful science.

Professionally she is an electrician, a Certified Nutritional Consultant and a Registered Massage Therapist.

Jitendradas Loves Life

Jitendra took the Moksha Yoga Teacher Training when he was 19 years old. Shortly after completing the training in Toronto he moved to Beijing, where he was the resident yoga teacher at a new studio called OmShanti Yoga. Teaching in an upscale Chinese neighbourhood, Jitendra had money, friends, a beautiful boyfriend and a lavish place to rest his head after a long day at work. As all his material dreams were coming true in China, Jitendra's anxieties were at an all time high. He was living in hell inside his body. He left Beijing feeling scared and depressed.

Pockets filled with cash and spiritually bankrupt, his sails were set for India. In India he studied yoga therapy in SVYASA University; Tantra with Tantric master Anath K. Atre; and philosophy in a series of ashrams throughout the south.

Since his journey across India, Jitendra has studied and taught yoga all over the world. He was the founding teacher of Inner Living Yoga in Malaysia, H.Om Yoga in Singapore, and European Spa & Yoga, also in Malaysia. While in Malaysia teaching yoga, he volunteered 20 hours per week as a yoga and English teacher in a school for children who were living in poverty.

Now, back in Winnipeg with over 1600 hours of teacher training, countless hours spent in contemplation and meditation, and a lifestyle that revolves around his passion for the yogic experience, Jitendra is finally at peace. Many years of spiritual self-study have led him to continuously live his life in celebration of the ever-unfolding truth of yoga.

Yoga is infinite love. Beyond name and form. Beyond thought and imagination. Yoga is the unending summation of the interconnectedness of all creation.

Yoga is who you are. Only in stillness can the infinite bliss of who you are be experienced. Only with experience can this infinite love be realized. Only with help can this profound realization occur. It is an honour to meet you here like this.
